Langcraft Motors

Manufacture Date Range: 1950’s-1960’s

Langcraft Metal Outboard Motors

  • The 1958 metal “Mercury-style” Langcraft is arguably the most sought after and valuable in the Langcraft line. In 1958 this motor and the K&O version were the exact same motor with differently branded decals. The K&O version had the licensed Mercury branding and this version carried the Langcraft branding. These motors were unique for their squatty and disproportionate styling. Most vintage toy outboards have very accurate proportions when compared to their real-life counterparts. This model has a much shorter height than normal and the upper half of the motor is very large when compared to the lower half. The box for this motor was also deeper than any other Langcraft box to fit the bulkier cowl. This model and the K&O version are the only motors to have the “ON / OFF” text stamped on the side of the metal lift ring above the switch.

    Notable Traits:

    • 1:9 scale about 5 inches tall

    • Uniquely inaccurate proportioning

    • Model is exactly the same for Langcraft and K&O brands
